This will be a fireside chat discussing the importance of staging in venture capital with an application to dual purpose firms.

This lecture series focuses on the role of finance in the entrepreneurial journey. The aim is to improve our understanding of the role of early-stage financiers in the start-up and scale-up of new ventures. Discussions will touch upon several research topics like the types of constraints that limit the start and growth of new companies, and the role of specialized financiers, as well as policy, in mitigating them.

William McManners

William McManners is a Venture Capital investor, and Founder of MD One Ventures. He has 14 years’ experience in Financial Services, Defence and Security, and has co-founded operating businesses in Security, Healthcare and Financial Services. MD One Ventures was founded in 2021 and has invested in a growing portfolio of early stage businesses, seeking to deliver a technical advantage to European and Allied National Security.

Previously he served in the British Army and UK Special Forces, retiring in 2020 as a Major, having served on numerous global operations.

 

Juanita Gonzalez-Uribe

Juanita González-Uribe is Associate Professor in Finance at the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, private equity and innovation. Her work spans different regions including Latin America, the UK, and the USA.
