Recognizing the critical role that financial markets will play in determining the success of the UK’s post-Brexit economy, the Treasury is now engaged in a wide-ranging review of the UK’s current financial regulatory framework.
Building upon the SRC/Oxera conference “Rebooting UK Financial Regulation for a Post-Brexit World”, Anamika Ahir, Peter Andrews, and Kevin James participated in a Roundtable on this reform effort, hosted by the City’s leading think tank the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation (CSFI), which took place on 7th October 2021.
The speakers argued for three key reforms, namely:
i) set regulators a new objective to “make markets effective from the perspective of the real economy”;
ii) require regulators to collect and analyse the information the regime they implement demands; and
iii) devise new accountability arrangements to ensure that these changes happen.
