Charles Goodhart, Emeritus Professor of Banking and Finance, gave evidence earlier this month in the Economic Affairs Committee's inquiry on the Bank of England: how is independence working? He was joined as witness by Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and current Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Raghuram Rajan.
The Economic Affairs Committee is a House of Lords permanent investigative committee charged with considering economic affairs. The inquiry seeks to examine how operational independence is working and focuses on the Bank’s role and remit; whether the governance structures of the Bank are appropriate; and how the Bank is being held accountable for its actions.
