FMG hosted a conference on financial stability and monetary policy in the honour of Charles Goodhart on Friday 19th May 2023, followed by the opening of the Charles Goodhart Library, located on the 8th floor of the LSE Marshall Building. Financial stability and monetary policy are two themes central in Charles’ work. Their interaction has become highly topical again recently because the rise in inflation and interest rates has severely impacted bank balance sheets, especially in the US, and has triggered a flight of deposits and government intervention.
