The meeting, co-hosted with CEPR/VoxEU, will discuss a new eBook which will be published by CEPR on 23rd February 2021, Shaping Africa’s Post-Covid Recovery, edited by Rabah Arezki, Simeon Djankov and Ugo Panizza. This eBook distils key insights from frontier research on the economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and innovative policies to shape the recovery in African countries. It covers a wide array of topics focusing on the response of firms, households, governments, and international organisations.
The event will be introduced by Ugo Panizza, Professor of Economics and Pictet Chair at the Graduate Institute, Geneva. Ugo is also the Director of the Institute's Centre on Finance and Development and a CEPR Research Fellow.
Rabah Arezki is Chief Economist and Vice President, Economic Governance and Knowledge Management at the African Development Bank.
Deborah Bräutigam is Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy, Director of the SAIS China Africa Research Initiative (CARI), Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
Simeon Djankov is Co-Director for Policy at the Financial Markets Group, LSE and Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
Arianna Legovini is Head of Development Impact Evaluation (DIME), World Bank.
Amelia Santos Paulino is Head of Investment Issues Section, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
